Disclaimer

Ayurvedapedia is an educational reference. It describes the classical Ayurvedic tradition as it is recorded in its own texts. It is not medical advice.

Educational purpose

This encyclopaedia explains how Ayurveda, a classical system of knowledge with a written tradition of more than two thousand years, understands herbs, formulations, therapies and the body. The traditional uses, properties and indications described in our articles are the classical, textual understanding of Ayurveda, set down for reference and study. They are a record of a tradition, not a claim of medical effect.

Nothing on this site should be read as a statement that any herb, formulation or therapy diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any disease.

Not a substitute for professional care

The information here is general and cannot take account of your individual situation. It is not a substitute for professional medical care. Always speak to a qualified doctor or a registered Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any herb, preparation or therapy, and especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are giving something to a child, take prescription medicine, or have a health condition. Herbs can be potent and can interact with medicines. Correct dosage is a matter for a qualified practitioner and is deliberately not given as instruction here.

On classical disease terms

For scholarly accuracy some articles name the conditions of the classical texts in their own Sanskrit terms. These historical terms describe how the tradition grouped and understood illness; they do not correspond exactly to modern medical diagnoses and should not be read as such.

Relationship with Art of Vedas
