How to practise

  1. Sit comfortably in a dimly lit room with a lit candle at arm's length, level with the eyes.
  2. Let the flame be steady and free from draughts.
  3. Gaze softly at the flame, keeping the eyes relaxed and blinking as little as feels comfortable.
  4. Rest your full attention on the flame, letting other thoughts fade into the background.
  5. When the eyes feel tired, gently close them and picture the flame in the mind.
  6. Hold that inner image for a while, then open the eyes and gaze again.
  7. Finish by closing the eyes and resting quietly for a few breaths.
